Go Off the Beaten Path in St. Augustine FL
Below are a few things that are off the beaten path but if you’re willing to take a short drive it will be worth finding the hidden gems.
St. Augustine Wildlife Reserve
If you didn’t think you would see arctic wolves in St. Augustine think again. Located 16 miles northwest of St. Augustine this sanctuary is home to bears, mountain lions, and leopards just to name a few. The sanctuary offers tours on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $30 for adults and $20 for kids age 6-10. Click here for more details.
Fort Matanzas National Monument
Just a short 20-minute drive south of St. Augustine beach, Fort Matanzas is an overlooked attraction. The Fort was completed in 1742 made of coquina. Take a short ferry to get to Rattlesnake Island. The Fort once was a watch town for invaders of St. Augustine now the watch tower overlooks 300 acers of coastal area. Vilano Beach
10 minutes north of Downtown St. Augustine is a beach known for finding sharks teeth. Vilano beach offers free parking located at Surfside Ave, St. Augustine, FL 32084, and is also one of the better surfing spots in St. Augustine.
